Welcome to Mumbai
A little guide to help you feel at home in our city
Mumbai is a city that never sleeps — a glorious chaos of colour, flavour, and warmth. Early September sits at the tail end of the monsoon, so expect lush green skies, an electric atmosphere, and the city dressed in its finest during Ganesh Chaturthi season. Pack light, breathable clothes and always carry an umbrella.
Light linens and breathable cottons are your best friends. For the church and reception, smart-casual or formal wear is perfect — the venues are air-conditioned. Slip-on shoes are practical for navigating Mumbai’s rain-washed streets. A small fold-up umbrella fits easily into a bag.
Explore Mumbai Like We Do
Tap any section below to explore — our favourite spots, getting around, places to see, and where to stay.
We’ve put together a list of some of our favourite spots around Mumbai. Whether you’re here for a few days or a week, these are places we genuinely love and often find ourselves returning to.
For an authentic South Indian breakfast, Benne is one of our favourites. Cranston swears by their Garlic Roast Dosa, while Merlyn never misses an opportunity to order their Filter Coffee.
This is one of Merlyn’s absolute favourite breakfast spots. Almost everything on the menu is a hit, but their Kale Chips are a must-try. Don’t miss their extensive coffee selection either.
A favourite at any time of the day. You really can’t go wrong here. It also happens to be the place where we had our very first date, making it extra special to us.
Truth be told, we were never really salad people! But as we’ve been counting down to the big day, this has somehow become our regular date spot. Their salads are fresh, flavourful, and surprisingly addictive, with plenty of options to choose from.
A reliable favourite for a relaxed lunch and great coffee.
Oh, Saz! Their juicy burgers and sizzling steaks keep us coming back for more. Special mentions go to the Saz Fried Chicken and Baby Back BBQ Pork Ribs. Their vegetarian options are equally delicious.
If you’re in the mood for comforting rice and chicken, this Thai favourite is a must-visit. We especially recommend the E-Saan Grilled Tenderloin.
Perfect for those late-night cravings.
Seekh on the skewer, dynamite so hot,
Butter Chicken and Changezi hit the spot.
Za’atar Naan melting straight into our hearts,
Diet starts tomorrow — today we’ll take all the parts!
Our go-to destination for Japanese cuisine. We love their Ramen, Okonomiyaki Pancakes, and Katsu Bowl.
If kebabs aren’t your thing, this place certainly will be. Their Sweet Potato Fries and Mediterranean Salad Bowl are among our favourites.
Mumbai is easy to explore using ride-hailing apps such as Uber and Rapido. Autos are readily available throughout the city, and for the adventurous traveller, the Mumbai Metro and Western Railway offer a quick and affordable way to get around.
The “Queen’s Necklace” is especially beautiful at sunset and after dark when the lights curve along the bay.
One of the world’s most stunning railway stations and a masterpiece of Victorian Gothic architecture.
Perfect for guests who enjoy art, architecture, cafés, and leisurely walks through historic South Mumbai.
Known locally as Castella de Aguada, this Portuguese-era fort offers stunning views of the sea and the Bandra-Worli Sea Link.
Mumbai’s oldest museum and a beautiful glimpse into the city’s history.
Famous for its grand white staircase and colonial architecture.
One of Mumbai’s oldest and most revered Catholic churches.
Better known as Mount Mary Church, offering beautiful views of the Arabian Sea.
A magnificent meditation monument with impressive architecture and serene surroundings.
A beautifully curated museum with lifelike sculptures and immersive exhibits portraying the life of Jesus Christ — from His miraculous birth in Bethlehem to His Passion, Crucifixion, and Resurrection. A peaceful and reflective experience for visitors of all faiths, offering a meaningful journey through key moments of Christian history.
If you’re extending your stay after the celebrations, we highly recommend a day trip to
Alibaug or Lonavala. September is one of the most beautiful times
to visit, with the monsoon transforming the coastline, hills, and valleys into lush green landscapes.
Whether you prefer relaxing by the sea or chasing waterfalls in the mountains, both destinations
offer a perfect escape from the city.
Running is what first brought us together, and as fellow marathoners, we owe so much of our journey to the Bombay Running Crew, which holds a very special place in our hearts. More than just a running club, it is a warm and welcoming community that has introduced us to lifelong friendships and unforgettable experiences.
Whether you’re taking your first steps as a runner or you’re an experienced marathoner, you’ll always be welcomed with open arms. The crew meets every Thursday and Sunday morning, offering a wonderful opportunity to explore Mumbai on foot while sharing miles, conversations, and the joy of running with an incredible community.
If you’d like to join a run during your stay, you can find the Bombay Running Crew on Strava or on Instagram @bombayrunning.
